A wealth of new material has been added with input from all over the world, and a survey of the latest technical developments has been included. This new book, Subtitling, has been completely rewritten in collaboration with one of Europe's most experienced subtitlers and subtitling teachers, Mary Carroll. In many countries, more text is translated for the screen than for all the printed media together. It quickly became an indispensable handbook for subtitlers and an important source of information for university teachers, broadcasters, film and video distributors, technicians and others with an interest in this major field of language transfer. When it was published in 1992, Jan Ivarsson's book Subtitling for the Media was the first book to look systematically at the art and techniques of subtitling. ![]()
